Mamma Mia brought a stellar cast and the relentlessly catchy music of Abba together to create one of the most enduring movie musicals in recent memory, and it’s something the whole family can enjoy together. Mamma Mia just wouldn’t be the same without those dreamy landscapes, which were actually filmed on the island of Skopelos.

A feature by Love Holidays on exploring Greece through film locations actually notes that both Skopelos and Pelion make major appearances in Mamma Mia. The iconic reunion of the Dynamos is in a Pelion village, while the iconic beach scenes were filmed in Skopelos.

The location’s sandy shores and rich blue waters are famous among avid travellers. Some of the most popular ones in the area include Sporades and Agnontas which have become tourist hotspots over the years.

Milos – Justice League

If one place in Greece were to capture the otherworldliness of superhero tales, it would be Milos. Here, the Kleftiko beach and surrounding ridges became the magical island of Themyscira. Fans of Wonder Woman and Justice League will have a real blast exploring the location and seeing where the Amazons did their training.

The volcanic rocks and vast formations truly make it a standout location for a holiday. If you have preteens, you should take them to Santorini, which was the setting for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It’s a great movie for friendship and coming of age, and it doesn’t hurt that there are tons of great spots to check out.

Interestingly, even the scenes that were meant to be in Turkey were actually shot in Greece. Most of the big moments happen in the village of Oia, which features gorgeous structures in white and striking blues. You can go on a photographic tour or even go sailing around the island.

Athens – My Life in Ruins

My Life in Ruins is a classic comedy that does a great job of highlighting how breathtaking Greece is. Though some of the jokes are for adults, everyone in the family can appreciate the amazing locations that the movie showcases.

Some of the biggest sequences are actually set in Athens, and it was the first production allowed to film on location at the Acropolis. The Acropolis is not only a stunning place to visit but also iconic in its own right, as it has held some of the biggest historical events of our time. It’s said to be the birthplace of democracy and is arguably one of the most popular places you can visit in Greece.
