PEACEFUL FOOD

April 17, 2020

We all know that the rhythm of life with children can be crazy, not to mention the stress of work, the hours spent in traffic and the ups and downs of our social lives. There are days when everything seems to get on our nerves and it can be hard to manage stress, especially when noisy kids are added to the mix. Luckily, there are a few foods that, while not miraculous, definitely help at the most chaotic moments. Take note!

Asparagus
Rich in folic acid, asparagus is an asset when seeking to relieve stress and keep calm. Whether in salads, grilled or roasted, this food is also an excellent source of fibre and vitamin B.

lemons

Citrus fruit
We already know that oranges are a great source of vitamin C, but you may not know that this fruit, besides stimulating the immune system, decreases levels of cortisol, the hormone responsible for stress. Oranges also work as a muscle relaxant.
As for lemons, these contain large quantities of antioxidants, which are as important as vitamin C. When consumed first thing in the morning, they help fight stress and fatigue.

Dairy
Dairy products promote the production of serotonin, an essential neurotransmitter against depression and anxiety. As if that were not enough, they also help regulate sleep and body temperature.

Dark chocolate
Did you know that consuming 40 to 50 grams of dark chocolate a day can contribute to a significant decrease in stress hormone levels? Just be careful not to eat too much. This is a highly caloric food.

Oats
Like all carbohydrates, oats help to increase serotonin levels. They also take a long time to digest, making you feel satisfied for longer.

Salmon
Because of its high zinc and selenium content, fish helps decrease fatigue and anxiety. Salmon is also composed of fatty acids that have anti-inflammatory properties and therefore help limit the effects of stress hormones.

Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients, which defend the body and, consequently, stimulate the body’s response to stress.

Red wine
A small glass of wine a day is known to have many health benefits. Especially in the case of stress control! Red wine helps prevent depression, anxiety and stress. It also improves blood circulation and reduces blood pressure. However, you should always keep to a moderate level of consumption.

Avocado
Avocados are the fruit of the moment and you can see why!  Besides helping to control appetite, they decrease the production of the stress hormone cortisol and help maintain your skin clear and hydrated. All the more reason to include them on your menu!

Spinach and Broccoli
Spinach and broccoli not only prevent depression, but also ensure the proper functioning of the nervous system. This is because these plants have potassium and folic acid, which are essential to reducing feelings of stress.
