And yeah, houses can be great. There’s no real reason for anybody to argue with that. But apartment living can be genuinely useful for families, especially when life is already full of school bags, snack negotiations, laundry, work calls, bedtime delays, and well, just day-to-day life in general, to be totally honest here. While square footage is nice and all, it’s more about convenience and dealing with less maintenance.
For a lot of people, this is the most important because there’s something deeply underrated about not being responsible for every exterior problem. Sure, it’s nice to have control, but at the same time, it’s so nice not having to worry about no lawn to mow, gutters to deal with, there’s no roof situation that could bankrupt you, family. Like, theres none of these problems here at all.
So clearly here, for families, that can be a huge deal. Which means free time is already limited enough, and weekends can disappear fast into errands, cleaning, birthday parties, sports, grocery runs, and trying to make the house look semi-human again, so imagine doing all of that, and then on top of that, you have a whole house and its exterior? It’s hard, it’s so incredibly hard!.
Another thing that really helps here is that a smaller apartment can feel a lot more workable when the building or community comes with useful shared spaces. Not all of them do, of course, but theres a lot of apartments that do, and they advertise what they offer too. It honestly varies, because it can be a pool, courtyard, playground, gym, BBQ area, or walking path, so families don’t have to be so card dependent. But these spaces are only good if they’re taken care of (and people renting or owning their own apartment tend to have to pay an annual fee ot something to live there), so help maintain things.
If residents are paying extra money, they’re expecting an apartment pool service that cleans the pool regularly so people can use it, same for general maintenance, cleaning the commons area, the parking lot, you get the idea. Property managers/ landlords should be doing this already, but when these shared amenities are there, this is something that apartment living families get to experience without the stress that homeowners have.
You might not notice it, well, let alone even know about it, unless you’ve personally experienced apartment living yourself. But in general, though, apartment communities can make casual social interaction a little easier. Kids might see other kids in the hallway, at the pool, near the playground, or around shared outdoor areas, and that alone can help make the home feel quite so boxed in.
